My Module

The module that I worked with was the Design of Structures. This module went into all elements of construction from civil engineering jobs, to elements of construction and architectural design, and the forces involved. There are several carriers in the field of civil engineering. Construction engineering involves planning and execution of the designs from transportation, site development, hydraulic, environmental, structural and geotechnical engineers. Geotechnical engineering is an area of civil engineering concerned with the rock and soil that civil engineering systems are supported by. Transportation engineering is concerned with moving people and goods efficiently, safely, and in a manner conducive to a vibrant community. Others aspects covered were the types of structures like Bridges, Dams, Earthworks, Foundations, Offshore Structures, and Pipelines. I also learned of varies structural elements each with an important job. Columns are elements that carry only axial force - either tension or compression - or both axial force and bending. A beam may be defined as an element in which one dimension is much greater than the other two and the applied loads are usually normal to the main axis of the element. Vectors are used in engineering to describe the magnitude, direction, sense, and type of a physical quantity. A force acting on an object has both magnitude and direction.
